Dear Reverend Father,
Abuse of elderly vulnerable adults
This letter is to plead for your help. It is a request for spiritual guidance for my sister Marie Davis of 20 Mayfield Road Peterborough who attends Mass in Dogsthorpe.
I, we, grew up here in Peterborough at South Parade We attended Manor House Street School with the Rev. Sisters, received first Holy Communion here and were Confirmed at All Souls.
I was born in Peterborough in 1945 (67). My sister Marie (1948) was married at the Church. One at least of her daughters, Sophie, was married here too (Letwen). Mum was a regular at mass and well known, she is too frail to come very often now. Mum’s Dad, my Grandad Patrick Ryan, came to Peterborough around 1925 from Co Limerick, not sure of exact date, they lived in Gladstone Street
What is the issue?
Father it relates to the control, manipulation and worse of our almost 90 year old parents who live here. Father it has been on-going, for years. I have recently come back to Peterborough after many years abroad, I left here at age 25. What I find when I arrive ‘home’ is not pleasant. Social Services, Police and the Court of Protection are now involved. I suppose that money and control are the central themes. I wish to bring it to a conclusion because I believe that my parents’ lives have been seriously damaged and years are short now, for them. They need peace. I have been dealing with this from Dec 2011 to date Father!
Why write to the Church?br>
I have tried to support the Church. I have done less than I should. If, in despair, for the sake of my parents well being, I cannot turn to the Church in extremis, then who I can turn to? For, it seems, this is either too difficult or too complicated a case for those I have mentioned. Hence I pen this note.
Rev Father, I do not wish it upon any of my fellow human beings to find their parents in the situation in which mine find themselves in and I ask and pray for intervention. Please use your powers and good guidance to seek to counsel my sister Marie Davis.
Father, may this letter be read and may it be acted upon. I hope the Church will continue to guide us all.
Thank you Father
Yours sincerely,
Peter FRANCIS
